Our Approach
Obesity can be treated by decreasing calorie consumption and/or increasing calorie expenditure. However, when weight loss is driven primarily through calorie restriction, the body’s resting metabolic rate slows down in a process called metabolic adaptation. This can make sustained weight loss exceedingly difficult while also depriving the body of vital nutrients needed to maintain muscle and bone mass and healthy body composition. At Adipo, we are developing an innovative solution to these weight loss challenges with a treatment that focuses on energy expenditure, by browning energy-storing white fat into metabolically active, energy-burning fat using cutting-edge Notch-inhibiting nanoparticles. In preclinical studies, animals treated with our product have demonstrated weight loss, improved blood glucose, and lipid control with no change in calorie intake. Data from ex-vivo human tissue studies support the translation of this novel mechanism to human biology.
