This is a great report back! I'm curious (and nobody here really knows, so I'm not expecting an answer) as to why they wouldn't let people who were part of the study continue on into maintenance so that they can get good data on maintenance too? Especially for you as you have to change your med now...
🥳 Welcome to the not-as-good -but-still -really-good side! 🍾
Do you have any guesses as to when retatrutide could become available in the US? I have some friends who could really benefit. Thanks for posting!
I had seen your contributions on r/askdocs and r/familymedicine. In no small part you talking about your asthma improvement made me consider glp1 and here I am now! I did literally just hit my rescue inhaler but it’s definitely reduced inflammation elsewhere.
Just wondering, were you unblinded? I know I had asked you in the past and you thought it unlikely to be in placebo arm but there’s always a few who lose well on placebo effect alone.
Super cool!! Congrats!! May I ask if you had any side effects and what they were?
Did you experience an increase in resting heart rate when you started reta? If so, did it return to a baseline or lower?
Congrats! Did you have to take a break at the end of your trial for final labs and stuff before you started Zep? If so, did you see weight gain?
Congrats and wow! Any knowledge of how Lilly might price this relative to Zep? I have read speculation that reta may be reserved for class III obesity because it’s that potent. Any thoughts on that?
I am with you.. I can envision myself doing whatever I can to pay for it oop if it’s as amazing as you say.
Question on your cholesterol results. Did your cholesterol number go up and then lower later? Did it consistently lower over time? I'd love to know more!
So - as part of the trial, did you get a discount or other hook up on Zepbound?
How does Reta feel different than Zep? Is it better food noise control, appetite control? I can’t wait to try it some day!
I second that! I’m about to finish the trial myself. I’m on my last battery of meds. Down from 240 lbs to 150. Down from a 38 waist to a 31 waist. My blood pressure is a solid 115-75. My heavier weight sped up the arthritis in my knees, so I can’t run. But I have no trouble with my power walks... plus the constant knee pain I was experiencing is gone now that I’ve shed all those pounds. My friends tell me I actually look younger now. I’m curious about my kidney function as it relates to my time on Retatrutide
I would caution anyone against saying this increases GFR and increases kidney function. While we hope GLP1s will be in our arsenal at some point along with ACEi and SGLT2i for renal protection, and they certainly seem to have benefit in those w diabetes (FLOW trial), I am guessing this was either a creatinine or cystatin c based estimated gfr and not a measured gfr. A creatinine based gfr will look better as people lose weight and in particular muscle as there will be less generation of creatinine. And a cystatin c based gfr in theory could look better as we reduce inflammation as cystatin c is well known to be falsely elevated in inflammatory states.
The only way to appropriately claim that it even preserves kidney function would be to do a long term trial of those on this medication vs those not and look at gfr decline over time, but you’d likely want to look at the slope even after people’s weight stabilizes to see if the effect is just decreased metabolic demand on the kidney or if there is some other effect.
It’s an amazing class of drugs but just to say that is an over interpretation of those data points that I would caution against making.
Do you mind sharing your sex and height? I'm a 5'7 m around 240 (243 on first shot day two weeks ago, 239 last Friday, 237 this morning- will see what the logged weight is tomorrow). Looking for about 180. I know lower is my recommended weight but I've got a pretty thick frame and lift weights, and South of 180 starts to look gaunt on me for whatever reason.
